A. The SportExcel High Performance system is both an evolution and a revolution in high performance. The strategies come from years of perseverance, from finding what worked and what didn't, from working with elite, professional and Olympic athletes, from having some incredible mentors and (I must admit) from a little bit of luck to be in the right place at the right time. The program foundation lies in several disciplines, Human Ecology (the study of systems), NLP (the study of how people learn), education and the martial arts.
As a high performance trainer, former national competitor, coach and professional educator, I designed this system to be based accessible to all. Athletes and coaches ask only one thing from me, "Teach me the Zone and I'lll do the rest."
Our athletes have used the system to win Olympic and world-class medals, as well as state and provincial competitions. Our coaches have used it to guide their athletes. And I have even taught the system to several professionals: psychologists, physiotherapists and business CEOs. Find out more
A. I don't. I let my athletes define it for me as they usually have experienced it at least once. They tell me that it is one or a combination of:
Being wired but calm, having no thoughts, watching themselves perform, being in slow motion, knowing exactly what their opponent is going to do next, etc. At SportExcel we let you write your own definition of the Zone, right at the outset.
As one of our clients, Mike Westjohn notes:
"The Zone is a teachable, learnable skill and it’s all connected to how willing you are to seeing, feeling and trusting yourself to achieving your goals."
A. Yes we do. SportExcel has worked with Olympic level snowboarders and skeet shooters, international competitive surfers, hockey players, skateboarders, figure skaters and athletes in a wide variety of sports. We have also worked with professional coaches at the Olympic development and international levels.
The SportExcel System is considered “cool” by top calibre athletes and coaches because it give them results quickly and without the stigma often associated with mental training approaches. SportExcel athletes get sport-specific strategies that quickly and radically improve their performance.
A. After years of working with elite, professional and Olympic-level athletes, we've learned that athletes dislike mental assessments with a passion. The last thing young (and older) athletes want to do is share is their emotions. Do you know a teenager or young adult who wants to share? They simply want the tools to get them where they want to go to be successful in their sport.
Our starting point for high performance is the best moments in your game. NO talk therapy. NO sharing of personal/painful issues. NO draining emotional chatter. Our system jump starts your game by focusing on what you do best, identifying your Zone and giving you the tools to maintain it by fixing (not talking about) what pulls you out of it. We truly keep it simple.
This empowering approach is one of the most important systems you will ever develop. You'll become the expert in managing your Zone and sport. You'll have the ability to build incredible focus, model Olympians and pros, develop incredible influence with others and create a consistently high level of play. Find out more.
If you have never used Skype, it is like being in person without the handshake. Try it - even our clients in their late 70's have found Skype easy to use and ideal for their training. They just ask their grand kids to set it up for them! We offer a free introductory session to give you an opportunity to see for yourself.
"I'd finally found exactly what I was looking for - a simple, effective and easy to use system for enhancing performance and productivity, delivered with passion and expertise. I've now integrated the system in my own strategies and work and get value from it every day. I highly recommend you check out Bob's approach to high performance because I know it works."
If you wish to continue, we then enroll you in the Ignition series program. If, after the first two sessions of your training you feel that you won’t learn enough to enhance your sport, we will work with you to resolve your concerns or give you a complete refund.
We know what our system has done for other athletes and coaches (local, national, international and Olympic level) and stand behind our work. Your success is our success. Read our client testimonials.
OLYMPIAN
"Working closely with Bob in the years leading into the Olympic Games was an incredible experience. I learnt a lot about the power of the mind and the subconscious, and I gained a better appreciation for the work that needs to be done not only on the track, but off the track.
My work with Bob provided tools to face any feat, small or large, with a clear mind and a confidence that allowed me to perform freely and in the moment. As an athlete there's nothing comparable to the feelings of performing in the moment, which made every session with Bob very rewarding."
- Jessica Zelinka, Canadian Record holder and Champion in Heptathlon, Canadian Champion in Hurdles and two time Olympian (Beijing and London)

YOUNG ATHLETE
"Having Bob Palmer come and do a workshop for our track team was fantastic! After reading about Bob's work and success with Hurdler Jessica Zelinka I was eager to learn more about Bob's techniques and I was not disappointed!
I really enjoyed the exercises and am finding it easier to recognize and get in the Zone with these exercises. I really liked the emphasis Bob put on supporting our teammates in the zone. We often compete against each other but by supporting and encouraging each other 'In the Zone", it will help us all reach our potential! I am excited for our future competitions."
